Choose the Faster Path for 3-Digit × 2–12 Multiplication By Rhada Bloom
Book 2 — Choose the Faster Path
3-Digit × 2–12 Multiplication
Ages 8–12
Moving from 2-digit to 3-digit multiplication adds more than bigger numbers. Learners also need to keep track of place value, carrying, and which method makes sense for the multiplier in front of them.
Book 2 — Choose the Faster Path is a three-part digital multiplication pack designed to help learners slow down before calculating, look at the multiplier, and choose a clear path they can follow from start to finish.
The central routine is:
SEE IT → CHOOSE IT → MULTIPLY IT → CHECK IT
Learners work with three main path types:
- Shortcut strategies for ×2, ×4, ×5, ×8, and ×9
- 3-Digit Crosswise for ×3, ×6, and ×7, and as an alternative for selected one-digit multipliers
- Build from 10 for ×10, ×11, and ×12
The emphasis is not on rushing.
CLEAR FIRST. FAST SECOND.

FILE 00 — Start Here: Teaching Guide & Strategy Lessons
33 pages
Begin here before moving into the 100-question practice.
This file introduces the Book 2 decision system with visual, step-by-step examples, including:
- The Book 2 Decision Routine
- The multiplier Path Map
- 3-Digit Crosswise
- Carrying through ones, tens, and hundreds
- Regrouping hundreds into thousands
- ×2 — Double once
- ×4 — Double twice
- ×5 — Multiply by 10, then take half
- ×8 — Double three times
- ×9 — Multiply by 10, then subtract one original group
- ×10 — Place-value shift
- ×11 — Build 10 + 1
- ×12 — Build 10 + 2
- Comparing Shortcut and Crosswise
- Path-selection practice
- A readiness check before Q101–Q200
The visual lessons are designed to make the arithmetic steps visible rather than asking the learner to memorize isolated rules. FILE 00 — Start Here_ Teaching …
FILE 01 — Learner Practice Workbook
23 pages
Includes 100 multiple-choice multiplication problems, Q101–Q200.
For each problem, the learner is asked to:
LOOK → CHOOSE → WRITE → SOLVE → CHECK
Instead of moving directly into calculation, learners first write the path they plan to use and then solve the problem.
The practice covers 3-digit × 2–12 multiplication using the same path system introduced in File 00. FILE 01 — Learner Practice Work…
FILE 02 — Answer Key & Worked Solutions
113 pages
Use this file after the learner has attempted the practice.
It includes:
- A Quick Answer Key for Q101–Q200
- Correct multiple-choice answers
- Step-by-step worked solutions
- A recommended path for each problem
- Illustrated examples of Shortcut, Crosswise, and Build-from-10 methods
- Place-value and carrying explanations when needed
The worked solutions are designed to show how a problem can be approached, not only what the final answer is. For some multipliers, more than one taught path can lead to the same correct answer. FILE 02 — Answer Key & Worked S…
This Pack May Be a Good Fit For
- Learners ages 8–12
- Children ready to move from 2-digit × 1-digit to 3-digit multiplication
- Learners who already know basic multiplication facts
- Children who understand basic carrying but need more practice keeping place values organized
- Visual learners who benefit from diagrams and worked examples
- Learners who tend to begin calculating before deciding how to approach a problem
